Admission to Tregonwell Academy is achieved through a number of routes. As a specialist provision for children with emotional, social and/or mental health needs, we can be named as the school of choice on an Education Health Care Plan, formerly known as a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
In addition, we run an Alternative Provision. Pupils are referred to us for fixed-term exclusion packages from Day 6 (or earlier by agreement) from their mainstream school, or come to us if permanently excluded before their managed move on to another mainstream provision has been agreed.
Some schools want to avoid excluding pupils. In these cases, it may be that we are asked to take a young person on a ‘Purchased Place’ which is time limited and designed to enable the pupil to get back on track before returning to their mainstream provision as appropriate.
