The school day begins at 09:00 with breakfast club and our celebration assembly. Breakfast club is an opportunity for pupils to start the day positively, enjoy eating with others, socialising and preparing for a learning focused day. During breakfast club, which is free of charge, pupils can choose from a selection of cereals or toast. We also provide water or milk.
Towards the end of breakfast club a member of the Senior Leadership Team will begin the daily celebration assembly to recognise achievements from the previous day. These mentions will also be uploaded to Marvellous Me so parents can celebrate this at home. On Friday, Learning of the Week certificates are awarded to pupils who have made significant progress or achievements that week.
Lessons begin at 09:15 and start with Skills for Life. These lessons aim to provide a positive start to the day and act as a ‘brain warm-up’ exercise. The four areas of learning below look to address the pupils’ primary areas of development; Fine and gross motor skills (‘Learn to Move, Move to Learn’, building, etc.), Speaking, listening and thinking (Thinking Hats), Puzzles, logical thinking and problem solving, Key Skills for Learning (handwriting, spelling, refining, improving).
English and Maths lessons follow Skills for Life. These lessons are highly personalised to ensure that all pupils are supported and that learning is targeted to meet their individual abilities.
Personal Development time starts at 10:55 and is an opportunity for pupils to better understand their own personal challenges and learn strategies to help them overcome these. The 30 minute session includes opportunities for a snack (fruit is available to all pupils free of charge) and time outside to play and enjoy our outdoor space.
Following Personal Development time, pupils will start their Creative Curriculum lessons. These include; Science, British Values, PE, Computing, Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL), Design Technology, Art, Music, Humanities and languages.
Lunchtime is staggered in 2 sittings between 12.40 and 13.10. Pupils eat together in class groups in the hall, where hot meals are available (either purchased in advance or through the Local Authorities ‘Free School Meal’ scheme) or bringing in a healthy packed lunch.
Lessons continue after lunch and school finishes at 14.30 on Monday – Thursday and 13.10 on Fridays.
